The MK III started life in March 1978, and in my opinion, one of the best Capri's of all time was a MK III, it shouldn't take you long to find out which one!. Visual differences were quite noticeable, one of which was the introduction of quad headlights, reprofiled bonnet, revised interior, larger tail lamps and black wrap around bumpers (except the 3.0s), but underneath (the floorpan) it was no different. The variations of the MK III was huge, it was just as impressive as the MKII, with engine sizes ranging from 1.3 up to 3.0. With different types such as L (luxury), G. GL, LS, S (sport), Ghia (top of the range). Lots of independent companies made there exclusive different versions. Aston Martin made some of the most expensive Ford Capri's you could buy, you could also have one turbo charged, or just wait for the best, of which only 1038 of them was built. Who is old enough to remember the Professionals? where are the gold and silver Capri's now, does anyone know?. A total of over 324,000 MK III Capri's were made. I mention in the MK II section that the floorpans and engines that were used in the Capri were from the good old 'cab car' (Cortina), well now in the MK III some of the engines were replaced with Sierra ones, I know because mine was a 1986 1.6 laser. The 3.0s was available from 1978 to 1981, and the 2.0s from 1978 to 1984, the 2.0s was replaced by the Laser.
