The MK 2 Capri was never as popular as the MK 1. Gone had the side lines and the boot. The hatchback did give an appeal to the 'sporty family man', but somehow Ford tried to change a good thing into a better thing and failed. The MK II Capri was available from February 1974 to March 1978. A hatchback that was heavier, wider and longer than its predecessor. To celebrate racing victory, Ford sold a special edition of the Capri MK II, covered in the great colours of the late Colin Chapman's JPS Lotus (black and gold). I suppose the most famous of all the MK II Capri's was, white and it's owner was called Terry! The range of the MK II was just as impressive as the MK I with engine sizes ranging from 1.3 to 3.0. With different types such as L (luxury), G. GL, LS, S (Sport), Ghia (top of the range). A total of over 400,000 MK II Capri's were made. The floorpan and engines used on the MK II Capri was the same as used in the Cortina, so Ford didn't leave much for the scrap heap. In fact a lot of the Capri MK II running gear was from the Cortina.
